overweight children have back problems…really?!?!

I hate it when people write research papers on the obvious…
Overweight children found at risk for back problems and disc abnormalities“…really. “We observed a trend toward increased spine abnormality with higher BMI,” Dr. Burns said. “These results demonstrate a strong relationship between increased BMI in the pediatric population and the incidence of lumbar disc disease.”

Did scientist, doctors, and engineers really need to write a paper to tell me that a fat child is going to develop back problems?

Spoon sounds very spoony. New album “Transference” comes out next week. Sweet.

My back is absolutely killing me. I have been having back spasms all day…Argh. I am thinking of buying one of those inversion chairs… or maybe I will just hang myself out my window. That would be cheaper…

The Effect of Running Shoes on Lower Extremity Joint Torques

It is interesting to read that these findings show that running shoes do provide great support and protect the foot, but at the cost of providing increased stress to the lower extremities. Basically, you have the choice of either injuring yourself while running unprotected (that is to get cut or roll your ankle while running on an uneven surface while barefoot) or injure your hips, knees and ankles with unneeded stress that could eventually lead to pain and possible surgery.
All this information does make me wonder if shoes like Nike Free were initially created with these types of studies in mind. If that is the case, what type of data do shoe companies have that they are not necessarily sharing with everyone else. Hmm..

I should totally design a running shoe…

Just eat, love

As told by wikipedia: “Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Self-confidence is having confidence in oneself. Arrogance or hubris in this comparison, is having unmerited confidence–believing something or someone is capable or correct when they are not. Overconfidence or presumptuousness is excessive belief, in someone or something, succeeding, without any regard for failure. Scientifically, a situation can only be judged after the aim has been achieved or not. Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability.”

Confidence in life is an interesting thing. I hate how confidence in one situation will not carry over to another. I am very confident at work and most things nerdy…. if only everything could take place at work.

Music

I love the hard back beat in this remix by the XX of You’ve Got the Love by Florence and The Machine. Much better than the original. Not to say I don’t like Florence and The Machine. In fact I love this song. One of my favorites of 2009. She comes across like a homicidal Enya…with her pure tones and raw emotion in her songs….and of course I love Enya, so it’s all good.

I saw youth in revolt. You shouldn’t. The tag line goes “every revolution needs a leader”, well I say every movie needs a plot.

hello 2010..how I love thee

I expect great things in the future…in my future.  Maybe I will become a successful business owner..keyword being successful.  Or maybe I will become a fantastic drummer in the likes of Keith Moon (I’d be happy with being just as good as Dominic Howard for that matter).  Or maybe I will maintain true love with a quasi-hipster girl (I don’t want a full blown hipster…they tend to smoke too much and I can’t stand PBR) that understands the importance of playing authentic music during love making, and none of that Animal Collective shit…cause I can’t keep that beat.  Anyway…before we can move forward we need to look back..back at the songs I enjoyed from 2009. (in no particular order)

passion pit - sleepyhead
animal collective - my girls
matt and kim - lessons learned
yeah yeah yeahs - heads will roll
white rabbits - percussion gun
phoenix - Lisztomania
the XX - islands
Muse - uprising
stellastarr* - warchild
MSTRKRFT - Heartbreaker
Lily Allen - the fear
