I went to the “big bambu‘” exhibit at the Met with Nancy. It was surprisingly impressive. I really wanted to climb it.
After the met we walked through the park to our dinner reservations at Bar Boulud. Amazing food. The patay there was really good. Once I realized how my main course was cooked I enjoyed it (I was disappointed in the texture before I realized how it was cooked).
My dessert was killer…Fromage blanc mousse, cherry compote puff pastry, praline rouge ice cream. Yum.

Went with Nancy to “the Modern” for a restaurant week dinner last night. “Serious Eats said the modern had the best variety for dinner. So we went. We didn’t have reservations but we figured we could get in quickly with my striking good looks as our entry fee…..instead we were told we had to wait 2 hours, but to check back in one. (so much for my good looks). We went shopping in the meantime.
I bought 2 jackets (yes I realize it is summer). One leather and one blazer. Zara was having a sale..so I didn’t feel bad buying them. Nancy got herself a cute dress.
Boom….1 hour later..
My meal was delicious. The company was even better.
Lychee soda.

warm lamb and goat cheese terrine with toasted pistachios and watercress. Yum

beer-braised pork belly with sweet pea puree and ginger jus. Awesome.

Strawberry Soup with buttermilk panna cotta, lemongrass gelée and pistachio ice cream. Surprisingly really good.

I hate it when people write research papers on the obvious…
“Overweight children found at risk for back problems and disc abnormalities“…really. “We observed a trend toward increased spine abnormality with higher BMI,” Dr. Burns said. “These results demonstrate a strong relationship between increased BMI in the pediatric population and the incidence of lumbar disc disease.”
Did scientist, doctors, and engineers really need to write a paper to tell me that a fat child is going to develop back problems?

The Effect of Running Shoes on Lower Extremity Joint Torques
It is interesting to read that these findings show that running shoes do provide great support and protect the foot, but at the cost of providing increased stress to the lower extremities. Basically, you have the choice of either injuring yourself while running unprotected (that is to get cut or roll your ankle while running on an uneven surface while barefoot) or injure your hips, knees and ankles with unneeded stress that could eventually lead to pain and possible surgery.
All this information does make me wonder if shoes like Nike Free were initially created with these types of studies in mind. If that is the case, what type of data do shoe companies have that they are not necessarily sharing with everyone else. Hmm..
I should totally design a running shoe…
How I love me some Tortoise Donkey love…

Science is cool. Golden ratios are cooler.
“By tuning the system and artificially introducing more quantum uncertainty the researchers observed that the chain of atoms acts like a nanoscale guitar string. Here the tension comes from the interaction between spins causing them to magnetically resonate. For these interactions we found a series (scale) of resonant notes: The first two notes show a perfect relationship with each other. Their frequencies (pitch) are in the ratio of 1.618……, which is the golden ratio famous from art and architecture.”

It’s a new year..which means I am sure to have a few resolutions that I am sure to break by March..
here they are in no particular order.
1. Dress better for work. Ever since I left Stryker (back in 06) I have not been required to dress nice for work…as a result…i typically look like a slob. It’s only when I have a date do I decide to pull out the nice clothes and then it becomes obvious to everyone in the office what I am doing.
2. Sleep more. Nuff said.
3. do stuff
4. eat better…exercise more..all that good shit.
5. Stop cursing. I am starting that one right….now.
I have more..but..these ones are at least attainable for a month or two..

Metric and Bob Dylan make me SMILE
Metric – Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right (Bob Dylan Cover)
…i think too much….
I expect great things in the future…in my future. Maybe I will become a successful business owner..keyword being successful. Or maybe I will become a fantastic drummer in the likes of Keith Moon (I’d be happy with being just as good as Dominic Howard for that matter). Or maybe I will maintain true love with a quasi-hipster girl (I don’t want a full blown hipster…they tend to smoke too much and I can’t stand PBR) that understands the importance of playing authentic music during love making, and none of that Animal Collective shit…cause I can’t keep that beat. Anyway…before we can move forward we need to look back..back at the songs I enjoyed from 2009. (in no particular order)
On christmas while hanging out with my friend Nancy in the evening..she made a comment on how she has basically hated my haircut for the past 2 years….she later told me I resemble Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon and that she had a picture to prove it. I think this might have been an insult..I am not sure. hah.
Regardless..you be the judge.
